Eind 2010 is de discussie in de politiek en beleid uitgebreid belicht in de schrijvende pers. Minister Marja van B. wil Beta en Alfa profielen her-invoeren in de onderbouw van het basisonderwijs. NRC december 2010. Jeroen van der Veer, ex-Shell CEO, nu voorzitter van het Beta platform Techniek, pleit op het Worldforum in Den Haag, op 3 december 2010 voor noodzaak om de technici en ingenieurs, de beta's in de breedte, beter te ondersteunen. Hij stelt 4 maatregelen voor in het onderwijs, van middelbare school tot aan universiteit. De basisschool wordt genoemd, maar krijgt geen concrete maatregel genoemd. En ons inziens, en uit diverse studies blijkt dat juist, is daar de eerste en wellicht zelfs grootste winst mbt het stimuleren van beta talent te boeken.
